Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a clinical trial?

Clinical trials study potential treatments to see if they are safe and effective. These treatments are investigational and not yet part of routine medical care. By participating, you may help advance medical research while receiving close follow up from a dedicated research team.

Why do people take part in clinical trials?

Patients choose to join clinical trials for different personal reasons. Some hope to access new potential treatment options, while others want to contribute to medical research that could help people in the future. Most importantly, taking part is always voluntary, and patients can decide to stop at any time

What are clinical trial eligibility criteria?

Every clinical trial has a set of rules, called eligibility criteria that determine who may take part.  These may include age, diagnosis, medical history, or current treatments. These criteria help protect participant safety and ensure reliable results.

A myTomorrows Patient Navigator can review the basic criteria with you and verify whether an available trial may be a potential fit. For any clinical trial, final eligibility is assessed by the study’s clinical team. If a question goes beyond what the Navigator can verify, they can help connect you with the study team.

Is participation voluntary?

Yes, taking part in any clinical trial is  voluntary. You  will receive detailed clinical trial information, have the opportunity to ask questions, and decide freely on participation. Informed consent facilitates you understand the clinical  trial and can withdraw at any time without any penalty and without affecting your care or rights.

Do clinical trials carry any risk?

Like all medical care, clinical trials may involve risks, including possible side effects from the treatment being studied.

To help protect participants, clinical trials include additional safety measures such as regular physical assessments and laboratory testing by the research team. Every clinical trial is reviewed by an independent participant protection committee before it begins.

Before you decide to take part, the PT&R research team will explain the potential risks and benefits. Participation is always voluntary, and you may leave a clinical trial at any time.

What is a patient navigator?

myTomorrows helps you explore clinical trial options with expert, personalized support.

Each patient is paired with a dedicated Patient Navigator with a medical background.

Your Navigator guides you through eligibility review, questions, and paperwork using clear, easy‑to‑understand language. Support is available in multiple languages, and more complex questions are addressed in collaboration with the research team.

How can I get ready to join a clinical trial?

If you’re considering joining a clinical trial, being informed and prepared can help. The PT&R research team will guide you through any steps required before starting, depending on the specific study. This may include sharing your medical history or records, as well as study visits and testing during the initial screening process.

Do patients have to pay for clinical trials?

Every clinical trial is unique, and covered costs may vary. Depending on the study, reimbursement or modest compensation may also be available to help offset certain expenses.

In some cases, costs related to the treatment of complications resulting from trial participation may be billed to your health insurance.
